Manufactured and modular homes are perfect for the baby boomer generation

According to historian Landon Jones, nine months after World War II ended, “the cry of the baby was heard across the land!” From 1946 to 1964, 76.4 million babies were born creating the baby boomer generation, which accounted for 40 percent of the population.

The oldest baby boomers are now turning 70. By 2030, about one in five Americans will be older than 65. So, why is a manufactured or modular home perfect for this generation?

Downsizing. Baby boomers witnessed the music, events and social changes of the 1960s, the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 1970s and endured the effects of the Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War, Gulf War and the current War on Terror. The baby boomers have been a major part of the history of the United States, and along the way they’ve accumulated a lot of items. At this stage, they are looking to downsize and live a simplified lifestyle—a manufactured or modular home allows them to do just that. They can customize a home without acquiring a big mortgage, which is constructed and installed in much less time than a site-built home.

Conveniences. Baby boomers have either retired or are looking to retire within the next few years. They’ve spent most of their life working and commuting long distances to their jobs. Once retired, they want convenience, which means living in a neighborhood with close proximity to health care, grocery stores, restaurants and more. Manufactured or modular homes can be customized to suit any land-lease community, private lot or environment.

Recreational opportunities. As baby boomers move into retirement age, the more it becomes apparent they will have more free time. For the first time in many of their lives, they are able to focus on recreational activities with their family and friends. This is a perfect time to consider a manufactured or modular home as a vacation home. They are the best choice for quality, style and affordability and baby boomers are able to get the most for their housing dollar.

Amenities. Land-lease communities are perfect for those baby boomers looking to still plant flowers or a small garden, but not have to worry about cutting acres of grass or maintaining large landscapes. Also, in land-lease communities, shoveling snow from sidewalks and roadways is taken care of. When selecting a community, however, be sure to discuss available amenities with the community manager.
