Michigan Manufactured Housing Commission and Act
The Commission: An 11-member board of Michigan citizens, appointed by the governor and approved by the Senate. Established within the State of Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes.
History & Purpose: Created by the Mobile Home Commission Act in 1977 to respond to consumer demand for orderly growth of manufactured housing in Michigan; to eliminate restrictive, discriminatory practices; and to institute programs to build consumer confidence.
The Act: The Mobile Home Commission Act licenses and regulates manufactured home communities, retailers, installers and servicers.
About Commissioners: Members of the commission must represent: a licensed retailer, a manufactured home residents' association, a financial institution, two licensed manufactured home community operators having 100 or more sites, one licensed manufactured home community operator having less than 100 sites, a labor organization, local government (elected), a resident of a licensed manufactured home community having 100 or more sites, a resident of a licensed manufactured home community having less than 100 sites and a manufactured home manufacturer.
