Purchase mobile home on the web

You’ve decided that you are ready to buy a manufactured home. Where do you start? Well, if you’re like 44% of recent buyers, the very first step is to jump right in and start looking at homes for sale online. Today’s home listings are filled with photos, detailed descriptions, and maybe even a virtual 3D tour or video. In fact, 93% of buyers found online listings and websites to be the most helpful information source when searching for a new home.

You are probably familiar with websites that have listings for site-built homes or manufactured homes on private property, but may not know where to start if you’re interested in a manufactured home within a community setting.

So, we’ve compiled a few tips to get you started with your online home search:

  1. If you already have a community in mind, start there! Maybe you have a friend who lives in a particular community, or perhaps you have noticed a nicely landscaped community on your way to work. Check that community’s website to see what homes they have available for sale, and browse any featured model homes.
  2. If you don’t have a specific community in mind … the best way to start is to search for a home retailer on the Michigan Manufactured Housing Association (MMHA) website. The search allows you to search within a radius of your desired zip code. Most retailers will have a website with home listings to browse, plus details of any special discounts or promotions currently running within the community. The association has over 300 member communities in Michigan, giving you lots of great options in both suburban and rural areas.
  3. Perhaps community amenities are more important to you than the home itself. If so, then find the community first, on the MMHA website. In addition to searching by location, you can enter additional criteria to allow you to narrow your search. Amenities might include swimming pools or playgrounds, or you can limit your search to homesites that offer garages, or even just search within the “Over 55” communities.
Online home searching is a big timesaver, giving you the ability to narrow down choices, and spend your valuable time visiting only those homes that meet your criteria, budget and taste. Before you know it, you’ll find the home of your dreams.
