How to find the right community

Manufactured home in a community

No two communities are exactly alike, and looking for one can seem overwhelming. The Michigan Manufactured Housing Association (MMHA) defines the options, shares tips and simplifies the process making it easier to find the right community for you.

Location, location, location
This mantra is everything when searching for a place to live. Your potential commute to work, a desired school district, and proximity to retail stores, parks and entertainment all need to be considered. Luckily for home buyers in Michigan, manufactured home communities are located across the state in cities, suburbs and rural areas.

All ages or 55+
At first thought, the age of your neighbors might not matter to you … consider the benefits of both options. Communities that are age restricted (ages 55+) may offer a quieter environment, amenities and activities geared toward an older population. An all-ages community, is just that—providing a lifestyle, amenities and activities for everyone (young adults, families, adults and seniors).

Features and amenities
Living in a manufactured home community often includes the benefit of amenities not typically found in a traditional subdivision. Features vary by community and may include community clubhouse, playground, park areas, swimming pool, fitness room, sport courts, boat/RV storage and more! In addition, many offer resident activities such as gardening clubs, games, movie nights, and other social events.

The neighborhood
Once you’ve narrowed down your list of potential communities, check them out on social media. Most communities have Facebook pages where they post news, events and activities. Or, ask the community manager if you can speak with some current residents.
